BRIEF

WHO initiated the development of the World Health Data Hub (WHDH) in 2020. Following preliminary work by partners, Kore was brought on board to refine and articulate the global vision and narrative for the data hub.

Kore’s role was to synthesise the existing development work and operational framework of the data hub, refining its features and aligning them with WHO’s broader strategic goals. This involved taking the technical foundation and progress already made by WHO and its partners, and expanding it to create a cohesive narrative and forward-thinking vision for the hub.

The process involved working closely with the Assistant Director-General for Data, Analytics and Delivery for Impact, gathering insights from WHO’s operational progress, and aligning it with their business needs. Our work ensured that the platform’s potential was fully articulated, allowing stakeholders to clearly see the platform’s role in revolutionising health data management on a global scale. The vision for the data hub extended beyond immediate needs, conceptualising future growth areas, key capabilities, and potential long-term impacts. We explored how the World Health Data Hub could shape data-driven decision-making across Member States and global partners, allowing WHO to revolutionise how health data is shared, analysed, and acted upon at a global scale.

Through these engagements, we crafted key narratives demonstrating how the World Health Data Hub would support WHO’s mission, and serve as a long-term strategic asset for the global health community, developing a comprehensive brand and communications strategy for the hub.

We aligned the branding with WHO’s overall brand identity while establishing distinct features for the data hub that positioned it as a cutting-edge platform. Kore authored and designed a best-in-class printed vision brochure, to communicate the data hub’s features, capabilities and potential to high-level stakeholders, securing their engagement and support.

A proof of concept website was developed in a 3-month sprint, allowing stakeholders to interact with the platform’s early features and envision its future impact. This site provided a tangible representation of the data hub’s vision alongside the brochure, helping to build momentum and engage senior leaders, global partners and potential funders.

IMPACT

Our work refined and articulated the global vision for the World Health Data Hub, ensuring alignment with WHO’s strategic goals and future health data needs.

By expanding and enhancing core features of the platform, we positioned the World Health Data Hub for long-term scalability and impact, future-proofing its capabilities.

The creation of a cohesive brand and communications strategy, including a high quality vision brochure and website, received unanimous approval and recognition as best-in-class communications, enabling effective stakeholder engagement and vital resources to secure funding.

The work garnered external recognition, internal adoption and continued funding that has contributed to and facilitated the long-term success of the World Health Data Hub.

The success of this work laid the foundation for subsequent projects where we continued to engage with WHO through data systems interoperability and the concept, design and development of their global dissemination platform.
